Francesca Martini, a minister in the Italian welfare services, said the government wants to officially register a surgeon qualified to perform plastic surgery.
He said: “This legislation is primarily aimed at increasing the number of children under 18 who had breast surgery purely for fashion reasons and did not know about the risks to be received.
“Too many teenage girls who are not aware of the fact that there are risks with this type of operation and should not be used merely for fashion. At the moment we have the Wild West, cowboy-style system of plastic surgery for young women and this must stop.”
“The ban under 18’s from having the operation is also a good idea because these girls are too young for surgery. Some surgeons do not know what they’re doing and create a big risk.”
According to statistics from the Italian Society of Plastic Surgeons there are approximately 85,000 breast enhancement surgery in a year in Italy, where 70 percent is for a reason and 30 percent aestheticic following cancer treatment.
